The "blahs" turn into "fuck you, go away world"

Who'd have thought that 18 degree temperatures and trouble at the office would SOUR my mood? Things have not gotten better. Last weekend was fun, but it was only a brief respite from the horror that is my life.

Ugh.

The only positive thing I can report is that I'm working out every day--which is making my feel physically better.

My workplace has degenerated into a quagmire, one where I spend 1/2 my time arguing what the definition of "bill of lading" is. Or where I engage in 20 minute battles over the professional aesthetics of a free wall calendar. These things make me want to puke, but I don't dare because it's like 50 degrees in the office. Thankfully, the rats seem to have vanished with the onset of snow. One can only hope those fuzzy bastards have succumbed to the weather, and are in a better place (i.e. not here).

I'm going to try and work on some writing tonight, because work of that nature usually cheers me up. Anyway, that is what's up with me--hostility at work, stress, and the hope that all those rats are dead.

Just checking in. Ugh to the rats--the college is doing a "reading project" this spring and students everywhere will be reading the Plague (Albert Camus). Bubonic is something spread by rats...

What kind of business is it you work for? I remember some photos some time ago, but I don't recall the product or service.

pallets... like the things you need on the ground for a fork lift to pick it up.

they don't make them.. they repair and resell them.

Yeah, it's amazing I'm not dead of cholera, plague, etc. (though it's still early folks).

Like Jimu said, we are a pallet/wood recycler/distributor specializing in wood pallets (we resale plastics too).

It's terrible, horrible, dirty. But it pays me something.

And we do have a few "independent contractors" that work in our warehouse that build and repair pallets.

"independent contractors" read: street bums who need money for crack.

What's f-ed up is, all my work friends have smoked, or are currently smoking, crack cocaine.

Yikes. This is what happens when you get a Liberal Arts Degree kids.

your're telling me? I got a philosophy degree and the people I work with poop themselves, eat their boogers, can't speak well at all, and throw fits when they don't get their way. But in her defense.. she is only 2.

Pallets? What kind of inspection can there be for that?

We are 50% pallet company, 50% trucking company (to ship the pallets). This area of the business is where we got into hot water with the DOT.

you know.. things like "when your driver's pee, does it come out as a liquid or does it come out as pure crystal meth?"

Terri kinda brings up a good point--the way I see it, our company is too much of a trucking company--AND NOT ENOUGH of a pallet business.

95% of what I deal with is getting the pallets to where they need to go. Much of the money spent (at least, the checks I write) goes to moving them about.

The pallets themselves are almost an after thought. I've been there 6 months, and I know very little about pallets--but I know a lot about trucking.

I wish my company would do the sensible thing, and scale back. Maybe focus more on building a good product (that doesn't have the wrong nails, that scratch people...or rotten boards, coated with rat feces).

Sigh.

I hate the "business world." I find business infinitely boring.

My husband says there are grades of pallets and that it can be very important.
