Kids

Ugh. I'm so lame.

More pictures from the wedding. Can you spot the "baby"???

(hint: look in the middle)

Engagement Photos

Today Leah and I got our wedding and engagement photos. Leah handled the whole "wedding photos" thing quite well. She didn't spend thousands of dollars for a few dozen prints...instead she bought the RIGHTS to the photos and had the place give up the photos digitally.

We can print them, burn them, email them--as WE see fit.

Smart girl, my wife.

Anyway, when she paid for the wedding we got an "engagement session" for free. So on September 12, 2008--I ditched work and we had our session. Here is a sampling of the (grizzly) results:

We Did It (oh, and we got married...too)

In the coming days/weeks/months(?) I'll be posting more pictures of the "big day," but for right now I don't have very much (see below).

The wedding was actually not as scary as I thought it would be. There were no family arguments and no drunken brawls (we saved $$$ by not having anything beyond a champagne toast). I was a wreck just before the ceremony. I was so nervous.

Though we'd rehearsed the day before, I forgot everything and was basically in "what-the-hell-am-I-supposed-to-do" mode. It was great. Then the ceremony started, and as soon as I saw Leah I started tearing up. I made it without crying, until the vows.

Apparently me and my sister Amber are the only people who have hearts not made of stone--because we're the only ones who cried.

Whatever.

My Flickr Photostream will probably explode from all the pictures I have (both from the "big day" and the days leading up to it) but for now this is all I have:

Stamp

Leah bought this stamp making kit (for the weddin') and I used it to make a big obnoxious "Limemonkey" stamp.

Here, see:

Limemonkey Life Update

So the wedding is Sunday.

I'm trying hard to NOT freak out...but it's hard. Really, really hard. But deep down, I know that like my High School graduation (and college?) nothing is really going to be different. Oh sure, I get a minor tax break...and Leah will have my last name...but really, will anything have changed?

No.

Anyway, it's not the "marriage" part that worries me. It's the "party/pageant" aspect of getting married. I always said I wanted a chick that'd be fine with running away to Vegas...and right now Vegas sounds pretty sweet. We have people that must be babied. People who must be convinced and begged to show up. People who call over and over wanting the name of the hotel. There have been social "boo-boos." People invited to the rehearsal dinner that shouldn't have been.

Ugh. And don't even get me started on the bachelor party situation (seriously).

What else is going on?

Well, this week I hunkered down and read my novel (what I have written). I'm trying to finish that bastard, but first I had to see where I left off. I have 196 pages written. The first 100 or so are gold. The rest is crap. I literally wrote a novella inside my novel--40+ boring pages of back story for a minor character. Yikes.

So once I axe that, and totally change the direction of the book...I'll be well on my way to finishing her up. Which I MUST do before November...because that's when NaNoWriMo starts all over again. And I really would like to have LAST YEARS novel attempt completed (at least the first draft) so I can compete again this year. Overall (talking about those first 100 pages), I'm impressed with how funny it is. When I was writing it, I didn't set out to "make it funny" but my humor comes across quite well. I also noticed that all of the characters seem to be shards of my own psyche. Which makes sense because the only person I really know is myself...so anyone I invent would be based (loosely) on myself. I like it how I've unconcsiously given my charcaters some of my odd habits (reading in the tub).

And finally:

The thing I'm most excited about is seeing my friend Paul tomorrow. We've decided to meet up at UMSL after work. We're going to go and hang out, just like we used to all those countless semesters. Now that he's out too, we both like to reminisce about the "good old days." Ah, getting old sucks.

Guess What? (KC)

Right now, at this very moment...I'm driving home to Kansas City. Through the magic of "timed blog posting" (thank you Terri) I am actually on the road.

I'm going home for two reasons. The first is, it's my mother's birthday (actually it's not until next week, but we're going to celebrate it this weekend). I'm also heading into town to pick up "the ring."

That's right. THE ring. The wedding ring.

*gulp*

I have less than a month of bachelor-hood left. I used to think that this was no big-deal...but as the day draws closer--I am freaking out. Leah signed my mom's birthday card "Leah Wendleton." Can you imagine such a thing?

On other, related wedding news: Leah wants me to pick a song for the "Mother/Son dance" at the wedding. The fact that such a thing exists is blowing my mind. I was really hoping I would only have to dance once (with Leah), but apparently everyone down the line gets a dance with me. This is troubling news friends. I have two left-feet. Actually, it's worse than that. I wish I had two left feet.

*shudder*

So that's what's up with me. These are the things occupying my time and mind. I am freaking out about the stupidest things (catering, dances, etc.). I hope when my nervous-breakdown occurs, all of this stuff is over.

Wanna see OUR Cake Topper?

Ugh. This wedding-thing is creeping up on me. Today I came home and found a little white box outside our apartment door...turns out it was our cake topper. I really wasn't into the whole "little plastic people" thing. Neither was Leah. So instead we got these two cute/romantic doves.

I'd like to think I'm the one with the "straight" neck. Leah's the one with the "curved" neck:

That's all I got right now...

After 'Da Party...

Well it's all over. I have some "groomspeople" picked out!

I was worried that everyone who said they were coming would come, but luckily most of the people I know are lame and bailed on me. Why is that good? Because the boys from the dorms came through and showed up! I figured they'd be the only ones to answer the call of "duty." Andy, Sam, and Mitch...the coolest guys from my old dorm all showed up together. We had pizza and played Super Smash Brothers Brawl on the Wii (I actually did pretty good, I even won a few times).

Oh, and Leah...turns out we don't have ALL the characters after all (not by a long shot).

Then we busted out ROCK BAND and jammed. This was what spawned the evening's best/most memorable moment--we had a giant sing-a-long to Weezer's "Buddy Holly." It was great. Then we YouTube-ed fights in Parliament (don't ask), and watched an episode of FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS (which none of them had seen). They all seemed very honored to be asked to take part in the wedding, and I now have my groomsmen (plus Becky--who is my groomsperson because she rocks and knows a lot about SharePoint).

A good time was had by all. There is a bunch of pizza left over, so I guess I'm having pizza for breakfast, lunch, and probably dinner (thanks for buying the pizza Becky!).

Some Highlights:

There were two people who weren't there (not through any fault of their own) who I really miss--my friends Katie and Paul. Paul was supposed to come, but something came up...Katie's been having phone issues so she didn't get the word out. Katie--if you see this: Paul and I want to get together the week of Spring Break! I'll email you this week.

Pray for me

Today (though I am still feeling crappy) I'm going to an all-day Bridal show with Leah and *gulp* her mom. Pray for me (to whichever deity you prefer).

How would YOU (yes, you!) Like a Save-the Dave Magnet?

Okay, well the wedding stuff is starting to move forward. It's really hard, what with the end of the semester looming. But we (and by that I mean "Leah") have been working hard and the invites are coming together.

Before we mail the invites, though, we have to send "save the date" notices. I'd never heard of these before, but they're like pre-invitations. Basically giving people a quick heads up to not plan anything on our wedding day. Leah wanted to do magnets after getting a Save the Date magnet from a friend. Rather than pay a company to make them for us, Leah and I worked together and made them ourselves (saving over $100).

Since Rusty can't go to the wedding, Leah decided to use him for the magnet. We're going to be mailing them out soon with our Graduation notices. If you want one (and aren't sure if you're on our list of good little boys and girls), shoot me an email.

Here's what it looks like:
