Ab-Fab Video on the "Amen Break" the World's Most Famous (6-Second) Drum Loop

Thanks to David/Jamie for sending this my way...it's an absolutely fascinating look at how a no-name Jazz band's B-side changed our ENTIRE culture(sorta). It's also an interesting look at copyright law and the public domain.

Check-check-check it out...

Especially recommended to my Mom (who makes her living dealing with copyright/copyright-issues).

Yeah, whoever did this...the guy is amazing. He should write a book, I'm going to look into it--surely he's done more of this type of research (maybe a documentary?).

Mea culpa, I didn't think of sending this to you.

Of course, it's perfect Jason-stuff, being all music-y, dinosaurs-of-techno, how to get away with ripping off music and whatnot.

It IS perfect stuff. So how are ya Dave? Ready for Passover?

What exactly does your Mom have to do with copyright? I have tried to make that the focus of research projects in the past and have looked for an "expert" to visit the class. I find that generally freshmen and sophmores don't seem to care much about "intellectual property"

Terri--my mom is a Graphic Artist. She uses images/fonts and such that are in the "public domain" as well as having to deal with buying them when they're not.

She's the only person I know who has a "creative" job, and this issue looms over her field/work.
