Hired!

Well, some how I ended up getting two jobs today. The first job was as a "Public Safety Officer" at the St. Louis Zoo. This was job #1. It sounded/would be cool but--it's a city job. So the hours were very small and the pay was less than $8. Still, I figured any money coming in was better than no money, so when I was offered I said I would take it.

But, I really hoped that job #2 would come through for me. Why? Well besides being full time, and having benefits, and being more of a supervisory position--it paid better. I didn't think I was going to hear back from them today (if ever really) but I just got the call--they finished their interviews and they wanted me. So I said yes. It's weird, but I'm going to be working at UMSL (I can't believe I now work for my school). I'm going to basically be in charge of the evening security at the Athletics Building (where I used to work out). I'll have part-time guards and student-workers under me. I get Friday and Sunday off (with Saturday being a morning/day shift).

If I had to work security, this is the kind of job I'd want to have. Today has been a whirl-wind for me. Somehow I pulled it off, though. I'm happy because I'll have insurance and enough money to pull my weight with the bills. Today was a good day.

Thanks. I'm determined to not fall complacent, however. I'm going to keep looking for something better--and start writing again (step 1--finish that NOVEL!!! ARRAGHGH!!!).

Still, I'm happy my money worries aren't going to be (as) bad.

You're right...will I do it? I don't know...but you're right.

Honestly, my periods of "inactivity" (writing) always seem to happen whenever I'm not working/in school. I guess I need the inspiration work/school (and other things I wish I didn't have to do) give me. Which is why I always say "I don't ever want to win the lotto." I'd never write again!

The University job is definitely the better one. All sorts of benefits. Does it include tuition for follow on classes? You could put yourself through grad school that way.

There is tuition assistance Murph. I should be happy, but I wish it was more money. Oh well, it's money (which is more than what I have now).

The little makings on the sides of a science cone: Cone-graduations!

I'd be more than glad to take a look at the novel whenever you may feel it's ready for prime time.

Congratulations! That was the quickest turnover for a job I have ever seen from any of my friends. I'm so excited for you guys:)

Well Becky, it was probably so fast because it was job I could have done before I graduated. I have benefits, but I'm making the same amount I did before I moved to STL. Still, I'm glad I'm going to be able to afford Leah and Rusty.

I was scared I was going to have to sell them.

just because you CAN afford them.. doesn't mean you should.. maybe you could put Leah and Rusty up for timeshare?

Ha!!! Good point Jimu...you don't know anyone interested in renting a girl and a dog do you??

If there's tuition, look into graduate school...

This is your conscience speaking.

Well conscience, you're right...but then again--you're wrong!!! I don't know what I would do with a graduate degree. I'm already over-qualified to be a security guard, do I really want to be OVERLY-OVERLY-Qualified.

But I guess I'll think about it.
